Programming Updates


The Janes who ran Lakemont Hill Thanksgiving morning

Gravity Kids: Gravity Kids classes are canceled for this weekend only while attendance is low for the holiday and Coach Moe is otherwise engaged. Schedule returns to normal next weekend. In other GKids news, we are adding a new weekday class on Wednesday afternoons at 5P. Book online along with other GKids classes.

Ski Camp: The Ski Camp program is being extended beyond the previous end date of 12/3. The Camp will be dark on 12/10 only while Coach Chris is on vacation, and will resume on 12/17 and continue as far into the season as there is interest. Reserve your spot in each Wednesday night Camp early as the groups have been close to full recently.

Happy Thanksgiving


Gravity Janes will be closed on Thanksgiving day, and Friday afternoon. The exact schedule is now posted on the Coaching Calendar.

New Website Features

The Gravity Janes website has recently launched a new Message Board for anyone with a question or comment about performance based fitness. Use of this service requires only a current e-mail address and password of your choice. Gravity Janes has an active and knowledgeable community of people ready and willing to provide answers and advice for anyone working on their fitness.

You'll also now find a quick-reference Calendar of coaching sessions - including the new Thanksgiving schedule - on the Programs / Rates page.

New phots from the week of 11/16/08 are now available on the Picture Page.

The Angie Challenge

Here's a little Christmas gift you can give to yourself: a better Angie time. Take the Angie Challenge by committing to at least 1 Angie test per week between now and Christmas. Ask about the many training strategies for bringing your time down. Angie is a truly universal pure body weight circuit.

If you are unfamiliar, here it is:
  • 100 pull up reps
  • 100 air squats reps
  • 100 sit up reps
  • 100 push up reps
Everyone taking the challenge will have their times tracked on the whiteboard and can check them all on line. No better time to start than today.

...And We Have A Tie

The plot thickens: Long-time GJ athlete Julien Verbrugghe - on a weekend visit home from classes at Western Washington U - decided that Chris Sakas needed a little muscle-up competition. Attempting to best Chris' record by 1, the actual result was another 9-rep muscle-up set (image of the set at right). Once again, the set was captured on video and appears below.

Gym and Personal Muscle-Up Record


The gymnastic ring Muscle-Up is a deceptively difficult move that few outside of strict gymnastics training circles can accomplish. Gravity Janes has several athletes that can perform 1 or more, but none more than Chris Sakas. The camera was handy for his latest attempt, and it turned out to be a personal best 9 reps.

The most significant thing about this effort was not the rep count (however impressive), it is that Chris is hardly the typical gymnastics material: he's 6'2" and weighs 230#.

New Web Site Content

There are now several new whiteboard images available on the Whiteboard Page. There are some powerful workouts on these boards so check on your scores and update your log books now.

As most of you know scores on the whiteboards are attributed to the ahtlete by their gym number. As this list grows it gets more difficult to keep all those numbers straight so I've added a Gravity Janes Team Roster to the web site. This will help identify the performers when you're looking at the whiteboards.

The Gravity Janes Wednesday evening Ski Camp is now accepting drop-ins. As with most of our groups, you can book and pay for this through the on-line booking page.

Equipment Highlight

Anyone who has visited our gym knows that a little education and less than $200 worth of equipment will get you a world-class workout and more than a little variety.
