"I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you for all the work you’ve put into the Nutrition Challenge. We’ve even found some recipes that have now become some of our favorites. We’re looking forward to continue to transform our eating habits and taking the nutritional information to better our quality of life." Ryan G.

Happy New Year

Take some time today to identify an aspect of your fitness that you'd like to improve during the coming year. You've got an entire year to work on it, and just about anything you can imagine about your health and abilities can be achieved in that amount of time, so don't be shy - think big. Write that goal down and put it somewhere that you will see it often. We'd love to be a part of your goal too; tell us about it and you'll have a lot of help and support.

Please visit the Gravity Janes Message Board every time you check in on our web site. Every question asked on the Board will get an answer from someone who knows. If you can't think of a question to ask, read answers to the questions already there. And don't miss the Baby Jane picture challenges.

We wish you a healthy and strong 2009.

The Beginning of the End

Welcome to the last week of 2008. The gym will be open normally through noon Wednesday, December 31st. Wednesday afternoon appointments are available by special arrangement.

As previously noted, there is as of now a single group workout at noon on New Year's Day. Please sign up for this group asap to insure a spot, and so that I will know of the demand in time to add another group if necessary. Only 10 spots are available in each group.

There is a change to the Gravity Kids program of interest to parents of kids 3 - 6 years old. Please visit the Gravity Kids page for details.

Please check the Message Board for the first "Baby Jane" picture, and leave your guess as to who among us it is.

Till Death Do Make Us Put The Weight Down

GJ mainstays Greg Shugarts and Stephanie Aardal have taken the whole camaraderie thing a little too far and are officially engaged as of December 20th. Greg decided to wear her down with a trip to New York and improve his odds a little. Looks like it worked. Here's a picture of them in NYC. Congratulations Greg & Steph!

Schedule - Rather than close the gym on New Year's Day, I'm planning on a single Group session at noon, and taking appointments by request only (no online booking). Please see me or call if you would like a spot on Thursday.

Merry Christmas

One last chance for us to wish you all a very Merry Christmas.

Picture at right - Janes' David Bovee is on a 2-week ski trip to Colorado and Lake Tahoe. This is a shot from somewhere in Colorado, and (apparently) 12,840 feet up. Click the image to enlarge.

Schedule update: Gravity Janes is closed on Christmas day. We'll also have another abbreviated schedule for the day after Christmas. Please check the Schedule calendar if you have any questions. Call if you can't find what you need on Friday; chances are we can accomodate you. Schedule returns to normal on Saturday.

Winter Wonderland

Many of you will want to know if the gym will be operating normally during the next few days. The answer is yes. If the weather impacts my ability to keep the gym open normally I will do my best to communicate with everyone affected by that change.

If you're a regular subscriber to RSS feeds (a.k.a. Blogs), you can subscribe to these posts by clicking on the "Blogger" icon to the right. This should open your blog Reader and create a new subscription that will automatically download new updates from this page that may affect the gym schedule. Depending on your Reader, you may also be able to forward the content to your email.

Picture at right taken at about 2P Sunday.

Shoe Primer

Bulletin: "Man falls asleep rowing." Not really, it just looks like David Bovee dozed off during a 2K PR row. Maybe you have another funny take on this photo. Post your captions in Comments below.

There are some thoughts about current shoe design on yesterday's Coach's Blog you should read before shopping for new shoes.

The gym's Christmas schedule is now posted on the Schedule page. Don't forget about GJ Gift Certificates for gift giving.

Gravity Janes' On-The-Road Workouts

Next time you travel you can request daily cell-phone text updates of the workouts we're doing in the gym. Then, send in pictures of your on-the-road version and we'll post them alongside the pictures of those of us back at home doing the same workout in the gym.

Check out a slide show of Brooke and Chris' beach workout in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, and another of what the rest of us were doing in the gym over the last week, now available on the Gravity Janes Picture Page.

Video Coaching

Gravity Janes announces new video coaching services to the list of training options. Included in the price of any drop-in private coaching session, you can request video coaching for any of the more technical movements that would benefit from video review. The session will include a DVD of the video shot during your session. Call us for details.

A recent study by Princeton University psychology professor Bart Hoebel concludes that sugar is as addictive as heroin and cocaine. To that we say, "Where have you been? We could have saved Princeton U. a lot of money on that study. A lot of us - including Barry Sears, Robert Atkins, and the Eades - have known this for years." Read the full report here. Don't miss the comments section.

Gravity Janes' own Marly Evans (#106) is getting married. She "discovered" her ring in the tree as the couple were decorating for Christmas. Congratulations Marly.

No Better Time....

It's a common refrain this time of year: "I'll get back to the gym after the holidays." You may have heard those words coming out of your own mouth recently. But you know that health doesn't wait around for the new year; health is today - and everyday.

So our advice is: don't compete with everyone else who will be making good on that promise in January. You've got an extra month to turn around your fitness - starting today. And we've got more openings for 1-on-1 training now than we will a month from now. Call us. Let's make it happen now.

Angie Update: The Week 3 Angie times are now on the Whiteboard Page.

Ask The Doctor

Dr. Vincent Santoro has offered to answer questions from the GJ community on the GJ Message Board. Dr. Santoro can address a wide range of medical topics, but his specialty is a fortunate one for us: orthopedics and sports medicine.

Read a short bio on Dr. Vin.

Please register on the Message Board (if you haven't already) to post your question, and begin the topic heading of your post with the words "Ask The Doc", followed by a brief theme for your question.

We've chosen the Message Board as vehicle for this so that everyone can benefit from the questions and answers, and so that the information will remain search-able for future reference.

There will be additional coaches on hand during that session to instruct you in safe and effective functional fitness practices.
