"I took a hard fall (recently) on my mountain bike at high speed, landing on my bent knee with my foot planted in my pedal. This is the classic way to tear a meniscus or ligaments in the knee. I had an MRI as I was afraid I tore some ligaments due to some instability and high level of pain, and the MRI came back showing no tearing of the ligaments, just bruised bone and muscles. I attribute this to all the work I do at Gravity Janes, keeping the muscles and ligaments around the knee strong. I have essentially developed natural body armor over the last year--another benefit of this work. Thank you! -- April Graham

Jane Says...

"The price of admission is a willingness to learn, a commitment of time, and a dedication to the work. Results are predictable and duplicative. The process is hard, and there is no substitute. However, within a period of 12 to 24 weeks you will be amazed at the ease with which you will perform just about every athletic activity compared with your experience today."

Gravity Janes in the Media

In Part 2 of a 3-part series on home gyms for the Issaquah Reporter newspaper, we list the best equipment for your home workouts. Read the online version here, or on the "In The Media" page.

Picture to the right is of Nicolé Verbrugghe in the middle of a 10-minute kettlebell snatch session with a 16Kg kettlebell. She scored 270 reps and took no rest for the duration. Whad'ya got?

Another great reason to avoid high-fructose corn syrup at all cost.

Gang Ups Getting Serious

Saturday morning's (1/24) Gang Up featured a continuous rep pull up session, and no fewer than 3 people - 2 men and 1 woman (and 2 from the same family) - got 40 continuous reps without coming off the bar. It might be time to initiate the 50+ club; it's obvious we'll be welcoming some members soon.

The 3 were Julien Verbrugghe, Nicolé Verbrugghe, and Greg Shugarts. This was mostly significant because of the family ties, and the fact that there were 3 individuals in one session with that impressive rep count. 40 continuous reps was also a personal best for Nicolé, but not Greg or Julien.

There's now a new post on the Coach's Blog which includes another thought on the performance diet.

Good Girls Do Swing Kettlebells

5'2" Annie Sakamoto is living proof that good girls do swing 32Kg kettlebells. There aren't even many men who are willing to train for that. How about you?

Thanks to the many who have signed up to represent Gravity Janes in the upcoming Big Climb and St. Patrick's Day Run. Please contact your team captains - Steph Aardal for the Big Climb, and Jenna Edlund for the St Pat's Day Run - to get your questions answered. They're always on the Message Board so you can post your comments/questions there.

A reminder for those of you new to Gravity Janes -

We have several specialty classes you should know about:

Know What Time It Is?

When the weather is cold and the days are short, you're not likely to be thinking much about spring and summer. But if you have plans for the warmer weather that would benefit from better physical conditioning - triathlons, back-packing, water-skiing, STP, etc., now is the time to be training for them. The human body doesn't change its state quickly; 3 months is about the quickest you can expect any significant improvement in your conditioning. That means now is the time to make a move.

I recommend you find a way to be in the gym at least 3 days a week. You'll be glad you did.

Represent GJs In Local Competitions

We'd like to encourage all Janes to participate in 2 local athletic competitions:

There are details and conversations about these 2 events on the GJ Message Board.

The last Baby Jane pic was obviously an easy one; most seemed to know that it was indeed #17, Moe Gelhaye. There's a new Baby Jane pic on the Message Board now.

If you are not yet a member of the Message Board, you're missing out. All it takes is an email address and password. If you have yet to sign up, many are using their GJ ID# as their screen name.

Baby Jane #2

It's time for a new Baby Jane; the new photo is to the right. This is a picture of someone seen regularly at Gravity Janes, but obviously taken some many years ago. Please post your guess on the message board.

If I don't have your picture yet, call your mother and get one. Then send it to me.

The identify of the first Baby Jane is Nicolé Verbrugghe - #5.

A new off-site workout and Diet Rule #2 are now posted on the Coach's Blog.

GJanes Welcomes New Coach

After the substantial task of earning her coaching stripes and filling in for various sessions over the last 6 months, Stephanie Aardal is now an official and regular member of the Gravity Janes coaching staff. Beginning immediately, Stephanie will lead the Saturday morning Gang Ups at 8A and 9:30A, with more duties to come as scheduling permits. I couldn't be more pleased and thankful that someone of Stephanie's caliber is willing and available to contribute to the quality training for which Gravity Janes stands. You'll find Stephanie's bio on the Staff page coming soon to this website.

New Website Feature - I have been looking for a way to post an on-going diet resource for the Gravity Janes community on this website, and I have decided that The Coach's Blog will henceforth feature that info in addition to the regularly posted workouts. The first Diet Blog is available there now.

Schedule - The Tuesday, 6PM, group session will be delayed to 7PM this week only. Gravity Janes is hosting the parents of the Issaquah Swim Team for an in-house orientation at 6PM. Please sign up for the 7P session if you can and want to attend on Tuesday.

New pictures from the past week are now available on the Picture Page.
