"...results are certainly greater than skin deep at Gravity Janes. I had the best results from my blood work since my heart attack in November 2004. I have struggled with my HDL, and though (my current number) is not within my goal range it is the highest it has ever been and I am sure it will be shortly. Thanks for the support. Terry and I are both enjoying the program tremendously." George N

Outside The Box

Anyone who has trained at Gravity Janes knows that this work need not be confined to the inside of the gym. While health clubs would have you believe that you can't exercise without all of their glitzy equipment, we happily teach you how to get a world-class workout anywhere, at any time, and with little or no equipment. In fact, we even give you the workouts right here on the web site.

When you go on the road for business or pleasure, don't leave your workouts behind. Just pull up the GJ web site and click on the Workout Generator to the left. There are over 50 workouts there; many that require no equipment at all. Let us know if you have any questions.

Remember: no weak links, and no excuses. Enjoy.

Scalability

Do you know those people who feel compelled to clean their house before the maid arrives?

Likewise, there are people who feel compelled to "get in shape" (whatever that means) before they come to Gravity Janes. They see very athletic people on this web site engaging in activities that they are certain they could not do, and therefore conclude that they aren't ready to be a part of the GJ family.

What is sometimes difficult to discern from the web site is that all of the exercise here is precisely scalable to the actual capacity of the person doing the work. The fact is that we have people here from 7 to almost 70 - in all states of fitness, and all shapes and sizes. There is no minimum level of fitness required to begin training here and no one should feel excluded from our program because of age, weight, or physical condition. That's why we're here. And that's why you should be here.

A Dedication To The Work

In one of the rotating Jane Says items you'll read the words, "...a dedication to the work...", and some have asked what this means. The answer can be found in the picture to the right. The work must be trusted on its merits, which means that you have an overwhelming belief that the outcomes are worth any discomfort you feel along the way.

Case in point, Chad's hands after an urgent 100 pull up reps. Any reasonable person would have quit long before their hands looked like this, but Chad is not a reasonable person. And, he has "a dedication to the work".

Chad, and you, will come back much stronger the next time - and forever more. Welcome to Gravity Janes.

Everybody Deadlifts

The deadlift is so fundamental to fitness that everyone at Gravity Janes is on a constant search to improve their performance in this movement. Above, Lisa B begins her first 200+ pound lift. Everyone's first goal should be perfect, reproducible form, then a bodyweight (1x) rep, followed by a 1.5x, and then a 2x rep, with a lot of higher rep sets in between. Where you go from there is up to you.

Answers from The Zone

Gravity Janes teaches that success in fitness is dependent on success with your diet. There is no amount or type of exercise that will nullify the negative affects of a poor diet. None. So, if you're not already, it's time to get serious about that diet.

Please read this short Q & A with Barry Sears, author of The Zone, on the Coach's Blog.

For those of you that feel that you've mastered The Zone, it's time you explored the principles taught by Loren Cordain and Art De Vany (links below right). They will add new depth to you understanding of eating for performance.

Don't Forget The Paralettes

Remember those paralettes you made at the September gym party? Have they gotten much use? Time to renew your commitment to this valuable work. If you've forgotten what you can do with them, do a search for "paralettes" on the home page, or search the whiteboards for whiteboard #3 in October, and you'll find a list of exercises you should be doing often.

Roll your own warm up -
If there's some high-skill exercise you'd like to improve, substitute it for the prescribed warm up and use the time to practice.
