"I wanted to drop you a little line and thank you and the Gravity Janes team for everything that you do. Before this month I have been secretly staying in shape for the hunting season. Its something I do every year and I was really excited to see how GJ would compare to other workouts I have done in the past. Well I'm sure you could have told me it would be far superior. Well it was...big time. It was such a good feeling to know that there was no ridge line I couldnt hike and no valley I couldnt cross. I guess I just wanted to say thank you for all your hard work and all the things you do for people." Hans

Jane Says...

"Exercise is not the time for debate or timidity. For there to be fitness value, the work must be attacked - like you were clawing your way out of a burning building."

New Olympic Lifting Class

An Olympic Lifting class will be starting soon at Gravity Janes. Please speak up if you're interested. Dates and times will be announced soon.

New Whiteboards -

There are images of recent whiteboards on the Whiteboards page.

How's Your Diet -

If you're still carrying around extra body fat your diet is flawed. If you think you're fixing your bad diet by coming to the gym, you're wrong. There is no exercise - in amount or kind - that will compensate for a flawed diet.

A flawed diet is hurting your performance, your health, and your quality of life. You could be as lean as you want to be 6 months from now. If you already know how, what are you waiting for. If you don't, book a diet consultation and you'll leave with an exacting plan for dropping body fat and upping your vitality.

You might be just a great diet away from some great performances. Just ask anyone at GJs who has had "the talk".

CrossFit Films Gravity Janes

The film crew from CrossFit spent some time at Gravity Janes recently documenting the work that goes on in our gym and some of our athletes. This video will be posted on the CrossFit web site and we will provide links or other information when it is available. Meanwhile there will be more pictures of the event on the Picture Page.

Congratulations to Greg Shugarts (#6) for an impressive 50 continuous pull ups accomplished on 3/22. Greg's hard work is paying off in many ways for him - that pull up performance is just one of them.

New Whiteboards also available on the Whiteboard Page.

Big Day For GJ

Sunday, 3/22, was an incredible day for the gym: the Big Climb featured a 69-floor stair climb at the Columbia tower, and the Gravity Janes team (pictured above) finished a heroic 9th place out of 221 teams. And first among all Washington CrossFit gyms. Congratulations to the team's first place finishers Curt Groscost for the men with a time of 9:31, and Nicolé Verbrugghe for the women at 11:31.

On the same day, the CrossFit film crew visited Gravity Janes to document the training that goes on in our gym. Several Janes made it to the gym and a rare Sunday workout for the cameras. We'll post pictures of the event on the Picture Page soon, and pass along the links to the online video when it's available.

Thanks to all that helped make this such a great day.

6PM Group Expands

Because Gravity Janes has been at and over capacity for the weekday 6P group lately and some have been unable to join we'll be taking over Studio B for all of the 6PM weekday groups from now on and adding 3 more openings for that time. You'll now see a limit of 13 at 6PM instead of 10 on the web site. We'll do the same thing for any group that consistently exceeds capacity. It would be wise to reserve your space for the 6P group as early as possible.

Now and Then #1

Picture above is GJ coach Stephanie Aardal; the one on the left taken recently, the one on the right at about age 10. There's a little more skill in her rope climb now, but maybe that earlier experience helped make her the great athlete she is today.

Any GJ clients that have old photos of themselves in athletic situations you want to share, we'll put a Now And Then together of you too.

They only got it half right, but the half they got is really right.

This is essentially just a focused aspect of adult gymnastics and Parkour, it's fun to see what that focus can produce. Take a look at what these guys are doing in Atlanta, GA.

The IST Begins Their March Meet

The Issaquah Swim Team will be taking a break from their workouts at Gravity Janes to compete in their March meet and the scene above was from the team's last workout before the break on Saturday, March 7th. They will return for the next phase of their athletic training on April 14th. We have enjoyed having these great young people at our gym and look forward to seeing them back.

New programs coming to Gravity Janes soon include the "Strong Defense" class and a new yet-to-be-named mostly outdoors program. Stay tuned for details.

The Big Climb, and Rehab Gravity Janes style

Gravity Janes is currently one of the top 10 competing teams in the 2009 Big Climb at the Columbia Tower in Seattle Sunday, March 22, raising over $4,000 and fielding a team of almost 30 participants. We're proud of all of you. Still time for you to get on board if you'd like to join them.

Seen at right, Derek is currently rehabing from shoulder surgery and using an improvised deadlift load concocted from a dumbbell, a weight plate, and a lot of red duct tape. Derek is determined to keep the rest of his body in top shape while his shoulder heals. Giving up deadlifts was not an option.
