"One year ago we had a conversation about fitness. I knew Gravity Janes was different, I just didn't know how different. Today, I am unrecognizable to the Darlene that walked in the door. I have never been more fit. The quality of every aspect of my life has shifted beyond what I knew to be possible. I am deeply touched by the depth of your conviction and vision for what true fitness really is. Thank you for being an advocate for me. I am looking forward to another year of adventure, transformation, fitness and friendship. The journey continues. I can hardly wait to see what's next. Thank you." Darlene G

Jane Says...

"Exercise is not the time for debate or timidity. For there to be fitness value, the work must be attacked - like you were clawing your way out of a burning building."

Workout Video

We've had the video camera rolling on the Gravity Janes "A-Team" recently as they train for the CrossFit Games Affiliate Cup. Stuart B put together a video montage of one session in March which I then uploaded to YouTube. Click on the image to the right to view.

Customize Your Workout

All who show up for group workouts should remember that you have the option of customizing your workout to include those items that you want to be working on. You'll still receive plenty of coaching if you choose to depart from the program for the day and get some specialized work in. Just tell your coach that you'd like a few minutes to work on your goals he/she will advise you of the best time to get it.

New Sports Team Trains At GJ

Gravity Janes welcomes members of the Forest Ridge Ravens LaCrosse team for training sessions beginning this Saturday, April 17th.

At right is a picture of Kathryn B. - a stalwart attendee of GJ Basic Training exclusively - and one of the things she has achieved with her efforts. Kathryn would be the first to tell you that when she first showed up here she had a long way to go, and what you see in the picture to the right was not even on the radar then. She is a great testament to what dedication can achieve.

There are new whiteboards on The Whiteboards Page.

Tune Up Your Running

Springtime usually means the revival of your outdoor activities - especially running. Just as you know that functional conditioning requires variety in your movements, the same is true for your environment. Your running will benefit you most when there is a variety of intensities, distances, surfaces, terrains and topographies rather than just running the same old hard-surface routes. I know of many hard-surface runners who come up with knee injuries the first time they venture off-road. The problem is that they're trying to bring the same intensity to their run on the irregular surface as they did to the flat one, yet they have failed to train the supporting muscles that those varied terrains require.

Hit the trails, add some sprints, abandon distance as the measure of your conditioning; these are the strategies of fitness.

Picture: Easter at the Green household; aunt Darlene and niece Cara. A little hard to tell which is which. Says Darlene, "Handstands don't come up much in life - almost 5 decades for me. Now, handstands, like pushups and pullups are indicators of fitness. A whole new level of vitality and fun is available to me now that wasn't a possibility before GJ. (Cara - the one on the right - is my 19 year old niece). Thank You Main Jane." Who knew aunts could be so much fun.
