 "Brendon and I just wanted to say thanks so much for helping us have a great (STP 2010) ride and for supporting our efforts to raise money for the Children’s Tumor Foundation. The first day we did 128 miles (the longest we have ever done in a day). We felt strong enough to have gone on further (thanks to Gravity Janes training) but our other team members who have not done Crossfit training, were tired and a little worse for wear. We found the ride a lot easier this year even though we only did a quarter of the on-bike training that we did last year!" Kirstin L

4th of July Schedule

Picture: A few of the 5:30A group who showed up to say goodbye to Julia Zook (in red) - on her last day at the gym before shoving off  to the Annapolis Naval Academy.

For the 4th of July holiday there will be only one group session on July 5th. We will conduct an extended 90-minute group workout at 5PM, and you can participate in all or part of this session. All other weekend sessions are on a normal schedule.

Coaching Change: The July 3rd Gravity Girls workout will be lead by Kate instead of Nicolé. Bring your weightlifting shoes.

On the subject of Gravity Girls, if you ever want to remind yourself of the list of benchmark performance standards to shoot for in preparing for the Girl Games in September, I have posted them on the Main Jane blog.

New Skills And Drills Session This Saturday


This Saturday at 9A GJ will debut a new summer program called Skills and Drills. This is  your chance to get some dedicated practice and coaching with some of the less encountered and technical challenges. This Saturday the focus is on Barbell Cleans. Everyone in the gym could benefit from some focused practice on Olympic Lifts and this is your chance to move ahead of the norm and raise your game. Come find out how much more there is to know. Treated as a regular Group Training session.

Focussed Training On Saturdays

We're on a mission to stamp out "assisted" work during GJ sessions. If you have ever - even once - had to do assisted work, we're committed to providing you with the support you need to eliminate that from your vocabulary once and for all.

GJs is introducing a pilot program over the summer that features a Saturday morning session devoted to bringing that "fringe" work that many people still need to assist into the mainstream. Things like Muscle-Ups, Handstand Push Ups, Ring Dips, Barbell Squat Snatches, etc. When these things start to appear with much more regularity in the Fall, you'll be ready.

The Summer of the Deadlift

There will be a lot of the usual broad-based work going on at GJs this summer, but one thing you won't be able to avoid is the emphasis we'll be putting on your Deadlift. We all know that a solid Deadlift - in form and load - will benefit nearly every other aspect of your fitness picture. And that you can move yourself off of any plateau you may have encountered by going back and improving your Deadlift. There will be Deadlift sessions of one kind or another at least twice per week all summer, and if you want gym time to work on your own just let us know and we'll make it happen. We'll be getting a baseline load from everyone this week.

By the end of the summer we'd like everyone to know enough about the Deadlift to teach it to others. Let's get busy.

BBQ Saturday


The first GJ summer BBQ is this Saturday at 5P. All you have to do is drop by the gym with something to drink, and we'll do the rest. You'll be using that beverage to join us in a toast of GJ's 2nd anniversary. Come hang out with friends and enjoy some good quality protein hot off the grill.

Please bring friends and family - we'd love to meet them. And, if you happen to have some folding tables and chairs that you can throw in the car, we could probably use those. See you there.

The Women Of Gravity Janes


We want to make this a summer when the women of Gravity Janes raise their fitness game.

Monday, June 7, is the official launch date of  the Gravity Janes "Girl Games". Exactly 3 months from now - Labor Day weekend - we'll hold a Games-style competition at the gym exclusively for women to determine who is the fittest woman of Gravity Janes.

Between now and then all serious participants will be given personal coaching and exclusive gym time to improve their performance. All competitors will receive Gravity Janes logo wear, and the winner gets $250 in prize compensation. Details coming soon.

Please sign up at the gym before June 12th. Only 12 competitors  will  be allowed to compete. If more than 12 sign up, we will hold a qualifying round this month.

Be a part of the first annual "Girl Games" and show the world what women can do.
