Labor Day Schedule

Labor Day schedule at GJ -

  • Friday, Sept. 3: no 12:30P or 5:30P, morning schedule unchanged
  • Saturday, Sept. 4: 7A group only
  • Monday, Sept. 6th: gym is closed for Labor Day

Deadlift Progress


We are nearing the end of our "Summer of the Deadlift" and you should be preparing to demonstrate the gains that you've made in your DL capacity since Memorial Day.

Whiteboard #1 will chart the progress by listing your pre-MD load. Please add yours before Labor Day. Then we'll get the new and improved load sometime in September. You'll have more than one opportunity to demonstrate your new capacity during the month.

Still think that your cholesterol is too high and/or something to worry about? Please read this.

Please don't read this if you're a vegetarian.

Work Week Preview

For the week beginning 8/15, here is a sample of the work we'll be doing in the gym:
  • A 10RM Overhead Squat
  • Dumbbell Squat Cleans
  • Bodyweight Deadlifts for reps
  • Split Jerks for load or reps
  • A 1k or 2k row
  • Handstand Push Ups (we want to crown the HSPU King & Queen this week)

The next GJ BBQ is Friday at 6:30P. We're also making paralettes at the event. If you don't yet have a set for the home this is the chance to get one. Order materials on line and we'll have them waiting along with the know-how and everything else you need at the BBQ.

Work Week Preview

I'm getting a late start this week, but once a week I'll be bringing you a preview of some of the work we have planned for you during the upcoming week. Check in over the weekend from now on if you'd like to sneak a look at what's ahead.

The week of 8/9 will feature:

  • Front Squats
  • Heavy Kettlebells Swings
  • A barbell triplet including Deadlifts
  • A 5k Run
  • And some of the most challenging ab work we can find
Some of this might also help those of you on the road over the summer. Do as much of it as you can wherever you are.

Dog Days Of Summer

Dogs are always welcome at GJs. As Ryan H's pooch Nola demonstrates, dogs are less likely to get into trouble when they're tied to a heavy kettlebell. Works for people too.

"See Jane Run" runner's clinic starts this Saturday. Here are the answers to the most-often asked questions about the clinic:

  • Printed materials will be available with information covered in any sessions missed.
  • The clinic is about 50% technique with drills, and 50% running (mostly sprints and shorter distances).
  • Footwear will be discussed, but bring whatever you are most comfortable running in for starters.
