 "I took a hard fall (recently) on my mountain bike at high speed, landing on my bent knee with my foot planted in my pedal. This is the classic way to tear a meniscus or ligaments in the knee. I had an MRI as I was afraid I tore some ligaments due to some instability and high level of pain, and the MRI came back showing no tearing of the ligaments, just bruised bone and muscles. I attribute this to all the work I do at Gravity Janes, keeping the muscles and ligaments around the knee strong. I have essentially developed natural body armor over the last year--another benefit of this work. Thank you! -- April Graham

Awareness of Health - It's In The Numbers

No one can expect a significant shift in their health without first having an awareness of their current state. That awareness can be found everyday on the Gravity Janes whiteboards. And practically nowhere else. There is nothing in modern life that will challenge human health, allowing us all to remain blissfully ignorant about our current condition. In the outside world, if your head is as high or higher than your fellow shipmates, and that's all you look at, you'll never notice that the ship is sinking. At Gravity Janes, studying the whiteboard is like noticing if the ocean is rising. That's when good things start to happen.

It's a great time of year to live in this part of the world, and to eat for health. It's a good time to remember that Safeway is not the only source of food, and clearly not the best. You can go far in living by the Rules of Accidental Eating by using this guide to seek out the best local sources of nutrition.

Paleo Cook Off

Join us at GJs for the next summer BBQ this Saturday, 8/20, at 4:30P. This time we're holding a Paleo Cook Off; a chance for you to whip up your favorite Paleo treat for us to sample. We'll have a panel of 3 paleo-wise judges on hand to make the call. Paleo foods are by definition simple, so ultimate creativity and taste will win the day. If you're not sure if your dish is paleo, bring it anyway and we'll tell you... probably after we eat it.

These BBQs are also a good time to bring family and friends down to meet us and look over the gym. There's always plenty of food and drink for all.

Someday...

Someday.... what you do now at Gravity Janes will be a requirement for the best health insurance premiums, or perhaps any health insurance at all. For now, you know something most people don't.

Here is more evidence that the rest of the world is waking up.

What that article failed to mention is something else we already know: exercise is not only a big part of the cure, the lack of it is also a big part of the cause. And, the more serious the exercise, the better it works.

The Value Of The GJ Community

The most valuable thing we have to offer is not a place to workout. It's not the coaching (sorry coaches, you are the best). And, it's not the equipment. The most valuable thing at Gravity Janes is the person working out next to you. That person inspires, teaches, encourages, and makes you better in a hundred different ways. Even when they don't know they're doing it. And don't ever forget that there is someone working out next to that person too. You.
