Authentic fitness requires more than a little knowledge and experience; that's how you know it's the real thing. Along with that education and experience will come the knowledge of how and where to get the additional exercise you do outside of our gym.

Also Available at Gravity Janes: Traditional Shotokan Karate

The karate classes at Gravity Janes will teach students the striking, blocking, kicking techniques taught in traditional Japanese style. Regular students will wear a karate gi and earn rank through the International Shotokan Karate Federation. Classes will focus on four main areas of training: basics (where we learn techniques and how to put them together); kata (a set of pre-arranged techniques against multiple, imaginary opponents); kumite (the pre-arranged or impromptu application of techniques with a live opponent *); and conditioning (physical training that is similar to the other training classes at Gravity Janes). Traditional Japanese karate class with an infusion of “Jane Style” of exercise creates a well rounded, strong practitioner. Karate classes will be taught in a “Gang Up” fashion of large group. The classes will be 60 minutes long. It is highly recommended that participants stretch prior to the beginning of each class. Note: Kumite, or sparring, training will be done only to the ability level of each participant. Full, free sparring is not typically taught in the first year of training until participants have learned adequate technique, reflexes, timing, and distance.
